Kublai Khon was the grandson of Genghis Khan. His father died when he was very young and his mother raised him and his two siblings alone. He conquered northern china. Then became the great khan of Mongol empire. During his ruling time, he attempter to invade Japan two times. They got defeated both times. These were the only times Mongol was defeated. He encouraged religion and artistic pursuits. Then he made Buddhism the state religion. He established Beijing. His most well-known establishment was the summer palace at Shang-Tu. He later died in 1294.
